PROGRAM
Green Days events are in held in English, are free of charge and open to the public.

SATURDAY, MARCH 29
20:30 – 21:30 Pre-Opening Event: Earth Hour 60+ (In front of the Main Building)
The lights of the main building will be turn off to support Earth Hour. Come and join us and millions of people across the world for an hour in the cozy darkness to raise awareness for the planet. After that the main building will be illuminated with green lights for the coming Green Days 2014.

TUESDAY, APRIL 1st

11:00 – 14:00 Pre-Opening Event: Information Booths at Háskólatorg (Ground floor)
Landvernd – Icelandic Environment Association and Gisli Sigurgeirsson, Electric bike adviser.

11:30 – 13:30 Pre-Opening Event: Bike tune-up in front of Háskólatorg

Free tune-up service will be offered to students and staff of the university by Dr. Bike from Hljólafærni, SEEDS and Jamie McQuilkin from the ENR Interdisciplinary Graduate Programme. The tune-up precedes the “Green Days” Biking contest. The contest will be launch during the Opening Ceremony and will go on during the Green Days.

12:00 – 13:00 Opening Ceremony at Háskólatorg (Ground floor)
During the opening ceremony we will have important guest offering few worlds on regard to Green Days. The delivery of the Green Days Award and the awards to the winners of the Photography Contest “How can I contribute, as an individual, to the development of a sustainable society within the university, my private life or in a wider context?” The Photography Contest was organized in collaboration with the Sustainability and Environmental Awareness Committee of the University of Iceland. The “Green Days” Biking contest will be launch during the ceremony.

Session of short lectures of 10 to 12 minutes each, followed by a moderated discussion with the speakers. Light snack will be provided.

18:30 – 19:30 Keynote Remote Lecture on Sustainable Cities at Háskólatorg room HT-105
Victor B. Dover, architect and co-author of the book “Street Design: The Secret to Great Cities and Towns”. Mr. Dover was the National Chair of the Congress for the New Urbanism from 2010 to 2012. He also is a partner in the town planning firm Dover, Kohl & Partners, and lectures extensively on the topics of livable communities and sustainable development. This event is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States in Reykjavik. Please note that this is a remote lecture from the United States.

Come and have fun testing your knowledge on issues related to sustainable cities, their natural and build environment and its inhabitants, and get the chance to win nice prizes for your team.

The lecture series is a panel lecture with specialist from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the United States. The main focus is on green infrastructure evaluation, performance, and associated ecosystem services which include adaptive management, hydrology, ecology and economics among others. This event is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States in Reykjavik. Please note that this is a remote lecture from the United States.

17:00-18:00 The opening of a new electrical race car, TS14, on Háskólatorg. Team Spark which consists of engineer students at the University of Iceland have for last months designed and built the car in cooperation with the Art University of Iceland. The car will take part in the international designcompetition Formula Student on the Silverstone – circuit in England this summer.

Guðrún Bergmann, has been at the forefront of environmental certification of companies in the tourism sector and communities in Iceland. For 10 years she owned and operated Hotel Hellnar on Snafellsnes, the first company to be certified in Iceland. Today she represents EarthCheck in Iceland and has been a leader for the incentive GREEN APRIL (GRÆNN APRIL), for the last four years. This event is organized in collaboration with Green April.

Delivery of awards to the winners of the “Green Days” Biking contest will take place before the concert. The first round of green drinks in a first come-first serve basis is courtesy of Loft Hostel and Hostelling International – Iceland.

Come alone or bring your friends and get the chance to win nice prizes for your team.

During the Green Days 2014:
• The Main Building (Aðalbygging) will be illuminated with green lights.
• The square stage at Háskólatorg (ground floor) will be transformed on a public space for students and staff to gather. The elements of the stage are created in collaboration with the “Craft around the World” of the Icelandic Red Cross, Salvation Army, Gámaþjónustan hf, and SEEDS.
• The Student Bookstore (Boksala studenta) at Háskólatorg will offer special discounts on books from the environmental section.
• The Student Bar (Studentakjallarin) in Háskólatorg will offer “Green cocktails”.
• Háma, the main cafeteria at Háskólatorg will offer healthy “Green drinks”.
