This years Green Days are coming up. Gaia organizes now for the 3rd time in a row the so called Green Days, during which we would like to raise awareness about different environmental topics. Last year was “Green Consumerism” and the year before was “Recycling” the topic of Green Days. This year we will pick up the year of “Biodiversity” announced by the UN (http://www.unep.org/iyb/ or http://www.cbd.int/2010/biodiversity/).
Join us for three days of exciting events, discussion, and fun. This Years Green Days will take place in cooperation with the Nordic House (www.norraenahusid.is) between the 7th and 9th of April. 2010. More details will be released soon on our webpage and via mail.
Stay in touch with us on or webpage or via mail, especially if you have ideas and want to place an activety
Last time Pub Quiz was a great success, therefore, Gaia would like to invite you to a new Pub Quiz. Please mark Saturday March 6th as an appointment. The fun will take place at Hemmi og Valdi and start at 6pm and last until 8pm… after that open end with a regular planned concert. We are working on a good deal on drinks.
Since the place at Hemmi og Valdi is kinda limited, we would like you to sign up for this Quiz on gaia[at]hi.is. There might be only 20 places available.
Finally, I take the opportunity to publish our report to the awesome trip to the Westfjords this summer. Amazing landscapes, sun, cheers, wonderfull new people, an almost broken car and some stress. That was our trip.
Gaia was very happy that we have been invited by SEEDS and University Centre of the Westfjords to visit them between the 13th and 16th of August 2009. We had fun! I think all participants agreed on that, and even our new member was very happy she came with us for that trip!
Personally I would like to thank all the individuals which helped me to organize the seminar in Isafjordur: Peter Weiss, Jacob Kasper, and Ingi Björn Guðnason
I would like to forward to you all the report, written by our member Georg Haney (see image below or via •PDF), in which you can read more about our activities and what we were doing there. Feel free to contact us, if you are interested in more.
We hope you have been enjoying the beautiful summer holiday! We have been busy planning our first event of the new year, which will be a fabulous adventure weekend in the lovely Westfjords of Iceland.
The trip will take place Thursday, August 13 to Sunday, August 16.
We have a tentative plan so far to leave Reykjavik in Thursday and stop by the SEEDS work camp for the first night (more info about SEEDS can be found at: http://www.seedsiceland.org/). On Friday, we will drive to Ísafjörður (municipality - link), where we will participate in a seminar about protected natural areas (University Centre of the Westfjords - link), and then eat dinner as a group. On Sunday we can explore the beautiful natural places in the Westfjords by hiking, kayaking, exploring, etc. Then on Sunday we will come back to Reykjavik.
If you are interested in going, we would love for you to come along! Please do let us know if you’re interested by the end of July so that we can plan accordingly.
As always, let us know if you have any questions, and we’ll be happy to answer them!
Hope to see you in the Westfjords this August, and enjoy the sun!
In celebration of the end of a long term, and to kick off the joyous holiday season, Gaia invites you to a relaxing evening of winter cheer!
Please join us this Friday December 19th beginning at 9pm at Mary Frances’s apartment, Framnesvegur 62, # 302 for some holiday comfort food and drinks!
Gaia will provide some Christmas drinks and snacks but please bring your favorite drinks with you to be sure to have enough!
Please RSVP (gaia[at]hi.is) as soon as possible, because space in the apartment is limited, and we also need to know how much holiday spiced wine to make
Me and the Gaia board would like to invite all Gaia members to an overnight retreat to my summer house on Saturday, Dec 13! It is located 20 minutes north-west of Borgarnes, a little over an hours drive from Reykjavik, and is fully equipped with a big patio, bbq, bathroom, kitchen, a couch, a tv, 2 bedrooms, and an attic that sleeps about 10. People will just be required to bring some bedding, as there is only enough for about 5 people at the summerhouse, and some food and drink in addition to what Gaia might be supplying. Once we know how many are interested in going, we can organize transportation, so please let us know if you have a car when you sign up. So far, there are already 4 going!
There is also a wild, natural hot spring at about 40°C that is the perfect bathing tub about 10 minutes away from my summerhouse, so we will be sure to go there!
Please sign up to gaia[at]hi.is as soon as possible!
